Whelk

Whelks, also called bulots, live on soft sandy soils up to a depth of 1200 meters. Since they can grow up to 10 cm, they are one of the largest snail species in the North Sea. Their housings, white inside and brownish-green outside, are more or less wavy across the windings. Hence their naming. They are cooked for twenty minutes in a strong spicy court bouillon broth.
